Since 1977, Spring Carlisle has been the longstanding season opener in the Northeast. This year’s event took place April 23–27 at the Carlisle, Pennsylvania Fairgrounds, and attendees were treated with mainly sunny skies during the greater part of the event. For those not familiar, Spring Carlisle is renowned for its large automotive flea market, featuring 8,100 available vendor spot and car corral spaces of NOS, reproduction, used classic and aftermarket automotive parts and accessories, collectibles, memorabilia, original literature, and automobilia including gas pumps and classic signs. In addition, there was a vast array of hot rods, rare collector cars, classic cars and trucks, and even a few vintage exotics for sale in the car corral.
While all of this is taking place, just down the street at the nearby off-campus Carlisle Expo Center, the Thursday and Friday only (April 24–25) two-day collector car auction driven by Carlisle Auctions was running strong. With more than 400 lots up for bid, when the hammer dropped, over half of the vehicles that ran across the block were sold, totaling more than $5 million in sales. The top five sales were a 1963 Corvette, $257,500 (F532.1); 1969 Dodge Charger, $89,960 (F491.1); 1969 Camaro, $88,560 (F489.1); 1965 Corvette, $87,480 (T212.1); and 1968 Ford Mustang GT, $76,680 (F506.1).
Other highlights of the event included the manufactures midway, with displays from ARMO Automotive Restoration Market Organization Hot Products Showcase and the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) car club.
